TRB’s Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Synthesis 8: Retrofit of Buses to Meet Clean Air Regulations summarizes the options available under the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Urban Bus Retrofit/Rebuild Program for heavy-duty diesel bus engines and clarifies the information in the regulations for transit agencies developing their own strategies for compliance. This synthesis also provides an overview of transit agency programs already in place to reduce particulate matter (PM)emissions.
