BACKGROUND:

Environmental Management Systems (EMSs) are processes and practices that help a transportation agency manage environmental programs in a manner that systematically reduces an agency’s environmental impacts and improves efficiency.  NCHRP 25-25/Task 111 collected practical examples of how transportation agencies created and are currently using EMSs. The results are organized into an information array in a spreadsheet format with embedded links to resources. The array is searchable by area of application (e.g., equipment maintenance, bridge maintenance, NEPA/environmental compliance) or by state.
