Task 163, FY 2003, "Innovative Practices in Workforce Development for State Departments of Transportation", (Bergstrahl-Shaw-Newman). State DOTs are facing tremendous challenges in recruiting, retaining and training their workforce. Efforts to develop and share information about innovative state DOT workforce practices will help the states more effectively address workforce issues and contribute to the development and effective management of a knowledgeable, skilled and motivated state DOT workforce. This study identified, researched, analyzed and documented state innovative practices for workforce development. The results have been incorporated in the FHWA workforce development website at www.nhi.fhwa.dot.gov/transworkforce. (NCHRP Staff: C.J. Hedges )
