Task 149, FY 2002, "Evaluation of 3D Computer Modeling and Electronic Information Transfer for Efficient Design and Construction of Steel Bridges" (Research Foundation of the State University of New York). The objective of this study was to evaluate recent developments in research and industrial deployment of integrated CAD/CAE/CIM and to provide best practices for introduction of this technology into the U.S. As a precursor to developing a U.S.-suitable integrated CAD/CAE/CIM standard software package or architecture for steel bridges, an evaluation was needed of existing software capabilities and information requirements analysis for use throughout the design/fabrication/construction process.
The report characterizes the geometric and attribute information relevant to the design and construction of steel bridges in current U.S. practice. The project is complete. The report will be distributed to the AASHTO Highway Subcommittee on Bridges and Structures. (NCHRP Staff: D.B. Beal)
