Task 95, FY 1998 "Technical Support for 350 Implementation" (Dean Sicking and Doug Harkey). This project provided technical support to AASHTO relative to implementing the crashworthiness requirements of the NCHRP Report 350 as mandated by FHWA. The project provided an assessment of hardware available that meets the Report 350 requirements that was instrumental in extending the deadlines for states to comply with the mandate. In another effort, the magnitude and nature of crashes into temporary concrete barriers was investigated relative to the FHWA mandate to upgrade these devices by 2002. In the future, needs in this area will be covered by a new NCHRP project (17-20) that will provide support for AASHTO's Task Force on Roadside Safety.
