NCHRP 09-30A [Completed]

Calibration of Rutting Models for HMA Structural and Mix Design

  Project Data
Funds: $1,000,000
Research Agency: ARA, Inc.
Principal Investigator: Harold Von Quintus
Effective Date: 8/29/2005
Completion Date: 3/31/2012
Comments: The project final report is available as NCHRP Report 719.

The objective of this study was to recommend revisions to the HMA rutting prediction model in the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) and software developed in NCHRP Project 1-37A for consideration by the AASHTO Joint Technical Committee on Pavements and the Pavement ME Design Task Force. The recommended revisions are based on the calibration and validation of distress models with measured materials properties and performance data from existing field and other full-scale pavement sections that incorporate modified as well as unmodified asphalt binders.

The project final report is available as NCHRP Report 719, Calibration of Rutting Models for Structural and Mix Design.

The following appendixes to the report are available here for download: Appendix G, Appendix H, Appendix I, Appendix J, and Appendix K.

The software program MEPDG Version NCHRP 9-30A, which includes multiple, calibrated and validated rut depth transfer functions, has been provided to the AASHTO Joint Technical Committee on Pavements and the Pavement ME Design Task Force for consideration for adoption in a future version of Pavement ME Design.
