The TRB Committee on Landscape and Environmental Design and the AASHTO Technical Committee on Environmental Design recognized that the current AASHTO "Guide for Transportation Landscape and Environmental Design" is outdated as a comprehensive design guidance resource.  The evolution of a context-sensitive approach to project development, and other emerging fields of study, afford the opportunity to better analyze, understand, integrate, balance, and improve transportation and the environment at both the system level and the project level. This project developed a comprehensive guide to integrating landscape and environmental design principles into the overall transportation project-development process. The scope of the Guide included considerations related to planning, financing, design, construction, maintenance, and operations. The new Guide has been received and submitted to AASHTO for balloting consideration.
