Waterproofing of Bridge Decks Using Pavement Preservation Products
[ NCHRP 20-07 (Research for AASHTO Standing Committee on Highways) ]

  Project Data
Funds: $80,000
Staff Responsibility: Amir N. Hanna
Comments: Project cancelled.
Fiscal Year: 2012

This project has been tentatively selected and a project statement (request for proposals) is expected in . The project statement will be available on this world wide web site. The problem statement below will be the starting point for a panel of experts to develop the project statement.

This research was intended to evaluate the viability of using pavement preservation materials as a waterproofing treatment on bridge decks.  However, because of the very limited use of this practice in the United States and the almost non-existing research on the topic, familiarity with this practice is not widespread.   In addition, it appears that identifying a rational process for conducting such evaluation would require a large research effort.  Proposals received did not demonstrate in high potential for success; a decision has been made to not pursue this research under the NCHRP Project 20-07 series.  (NCHRP staff: Amir N. Hanna)
