  Project Data
Funds: $800,000
Research Agency: Texas A&M Research Foundation
Principal Investigator: David Newcomb
Effective Date: 6/1/2012
Completion Date: 8/31/2015

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this research was to develop procedures and associated criteria for short-term laboratory conditioning of asphalt mixtures for mix design and performance testing to simulate the effects of (1) plant mixing and processing to the point of loading in the transport truck and (2) the initial period of field performance.

STATUS

The Project 09-52 final report is available as NCHRP Report 815.

An Excel® workbook summarizing experimental data measured on binders, mixtures, and cores from the field projects is available to download.

NCHRP Project 09-52A, Short-Term Laboratory Conditioning of Asphalt Mixtures: Field Verification, conducted an extended field verification of changes to AASHTO R 30, Mixture Conditioning of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) originally proposed in Report 815. The project final report is available as NCHRP Report 919.
