The goal of this research project was to identify and report on best practices among the state DOTs that have developed statewide cultural resources GIS databases for transportation planning and environmental compliance. The results of this research can be used to develop guidance for states that are thinking of developing a GIS database, have begun to develop a database, or are considering updating and enhancing an existing GIS.
