Task 103, FY 1999, "A Strategic Approach to Development and Operation of Web Sites for AASHTO Committees" (Byron Blaschke). Several AASHTO committees are considering using world wide websites to facilitate their work. However, it is usually not clear to the committee members how a website could be most effectively used nor, if a website is desirable, how best to develop and maintain it. While a few websites have been established using NCHRP funding (i.e., metric conversion, National Quality Initiative, Special Products Evaluation List), this funding source is not viable for wholesale development of websites nor for maintaining them. The objective of this project is to develop guidelines that AASHTO committees and staff can use in scoping, specifying, estimating, developing, managing, and maintaining committee websites. The contractor interviewed AASHTO Committee members and staff and described possible functions of AASHTO Committee websites. The final report has been sent to AASHTO for their further use.
