Task 59, FY 1994, "Transportation Investment and Economic Expansion: Case Studies" (Louis Berger International, Inc. Mr. Isaac Shafran). The AASHTO Special Committee on Economic Expansion and Development in September 1992 specified as one of the objectives, in its Strategic Plan for Continuing Activities, the development of a set of practical case studies based on state experiences. The case studies would then be used to help AASHTO and member states to focus on priority issues for post-ISTEA actions as well as practical applications. The objective of this research was to summarize, in simple and understandable language, available information on the linkages between transportation infrastructure investment and economic expansion, so as to help improve transportation investment decisions. The research approach was based on a review of the fundamental ways in which transportation investment influences the economic development process in today's policy environment. A final report has been completed and submitted to AASHTO for distribution to the states, and the volumes of the report are available below. (NCHRP Staff: R.D. McCready)
