Use the controls to the left to select specific problem statements.  To return to this page, click ‘Home’ at any time.  To see a list of all problem statements grouped by Research Field, click ‘Show All’.  Clicking on the problem statement title will open a new window and display the text of the problem statement.  If there are any evaluations or other documents associated with the problem statement, they will be displayed as links on the upper left side of the new window.

This website contains problem statements to be considered by the AASHTO Special Committee on Research and Innovation (R&I) for inclusion in the NCHRP Program. Problem statements are reviewed by NCHRP and FHWA staff to identify related research and assess the desirability of funding the project through NCHRP. Once the evaluations are complete, they will be sent to the submitter. The submitters have the opportunity to respond to the evaluations. Some panels for current NCHRP projects have requested continuation funds for additional research.  These continuation requests will also be considered in this process.

A ballot, used to rate the proposed research, is sent to members of the AASHTO R&I and Research Advisory Committee (RAC). The ballot includes links to the text of each problem statement as well as all evaluations and submitter responses.  The results of the ballot will be used to set the order in which the proposed research will be discussed at the spring R&I meeting.

Fiscal Year 2023 Schedule

· December 2021 – NCHRP and FHWA comments due

· February 2022 – Ballot with problem statements and comments sent to AASHTO R&I and RAC

· April 2022 – AASHTO R&I and RAC ballots due

· April 2022 – AASHTO R&I meeting
