Precision Statements for AASHTO T312 and other Laboratory Test Methods

  Project Data
Funds: $597,409
Research Agency: AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory
Principal Investigator: Peter Spellerberg
Effective Date: 1/23/2001
Completion Date: 12/31/2006

The objectives of this research were to (1) develop a precision statement for AASHTO T 312, Standard Method for Preparing and Determining the Density of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Specimens by Means of the Superpave Gyratory Compactor; (2) update the current precision statements for AASHTO T 166, Bulk Specific Gravity of Compacted Bituminous Mixtures and ASTM D2041-00, Standard Test Method for Theoretical Maximum Specific Gravity and Density of Bituminous Paving Mixtures; and (3) develop a preliminary precision statement for determination of the bulk and maximum specific gravities of bituminous mixtures with the Corelok device.

The following project final reports are available online: NCHRP Web-Only Document 54: Precision Estimates of Selected Volumetric Properties of HMA Using Non-Absorptive Aggregate; NCHRP Web-Only Document 66: An Investigation of the Cause of Variation in HMA Bulk Specific Gravity Test Results Using Non-Absorptive Aggregates; NCHRP Web-Only Document 71: Precision Estimates for AASHTO Test Method T 308 and the Test Methods for Performance-Graded Asphalt Binder in AASHTO Specification M 320; NCHRP Web-Only Document 109: Precision Estimates of Selected Volumetric Properties of HMA Using Absorptive Aggregate; and NCHRP Web-Only Document 114: Precision Estimates for AASHTO Test Method T 269 Determined Using AMRL Proficiency Sample Data.
