Airports face increasing threats from extreme weather, temperature extremes, and other disruptive events that jeopardize operational continuity. Such incidents include hurricanes, flooding, power outages, and security events, and may also include irregular operations that may occur due to issues at other airports, thus highlighting the need for airports to be ready to respond and continue to operate or get back to running as quickly as possible. These challenges affect operations, planning, emergency management, safety, and environmental domains, but existing guidelines is often too vague to translate into actionable steps.
The objective of this research is to update ACRP Report 65: Guidebook for Airport Irregular Operations (IROPS) Contingency Planning and build upon it by developing a scalable guide that enables airports to incrementally and effectively build operational readiness with tools, data, and practices.
