This project has been tentatively selected and a project statement (request for proposals) is expected to be available on this website. The problem statement below will be the starting point for a panel of experts to develop the project statement.
U.S. airports have thousands of outdoor workers who are increasingly exposed to extreme heat events and air pollution, which contribute to substantial health hazards and productivity losses. OSHA standards require measures to cope with heat but do not provide guidelines on adequate heat mitigation measures that airports can implement to protect workers.
The objective of this research is to develop guidelines on best practices to reduce the heat burden and risk to outdoor workers.
