ACRP is soliciting Letters of Interest from those interested in performing the research work. A cover letter plus a resume or CV should convey a concise idea of your knowledge of the topic and your related work and experience in the subject area. A statement that you can comply with the terms of the contract should be included. A panel of topic experts will select the contractor at their first panel meeting. The deadline for letters of interest is February 3, 2025 by 5pm eastern and can be submitted at https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8093208/ACRP-Synthesis-LOI-2025
Tentative Scope
ACRP Synthesis 71, Airport Safety Risk Management Panel Activities and Outcomes was published in 2016 when 14 airports had participated in the FAA Part 139 Safety Management Systems (SMS) Implementation Study. In 2023 Advisory Circular 150/5200-37A Safety Management Systems for Airports detailing and implementing SMS programs was released. The information in Synthesis 71 is almost 10 years old and with the implementation of SMS at airports which refined the Safety Risk Management (SRM) process, it would be beneficial to update the synthesis.
The objective of this synthesis is to describe current airport practices of Safety Risk Management processes. The audience for this report is airport operators conducting SRM panels.
Information to be described in a concise report includes (but is not limited to):
- airport roles and responsibilities in SRM panels.
- practices used in administering SRM panels and how airports document panel results.
- identifying triggers for conducting an SRM panel.
- the method for mitigation follow-up.
- airport lessons learned in conducting SRM panels.
- documentation and materials that airports utilize when undertaking the SRM panel process.
Information will be collected through literature review, a survey of airports, and interviews with selected airports for the development of case examples. Knowledge gaps and suggestions for future research, including a problem statement, to address those gaps will also be identified.
