Th research under this project developed a World Wide Web site to support the implementation of the AASHTO Strategic Highway Safety Plan.
In 1998, AASHTO approved the Strategic Highway Safety Plan that was developed by the AASHTO Standing Committee for Highway Traffic Safety with the assistance of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Transportation Safety Management. The plan includes strategies in 22 key emphasis areas that affect highway safety. There are significant efforts underway by the FHWA, NHTSA, TRB, and state and local agencies in a number of the emphasis areas included in the plan. There is a need to have a single site that serves as a repository for the material developed from these efforts and provides a resource for those concerned with improving highway safety to locate up-to-date information.
The website is available at www.safety.transportation.org.du.
