This project included the development of bridge rating standards for train speeds of greater than 90 mph that take into account bridge–train interaction. A mathematical model was developed that simulated the bridge response to high-speed trains. The project focused on railroad bridge normal rating standards, equations, and methodologies with respect to high-speed trains. This information and material is expected to aid the practicing railroad bridge engineer in calculating bridge ratings at train speeds beyond the current limits in the Manual for Railway Engineering of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA).
