NCHRP 08-92 [Final]

Implementing a Transportation Agency Data Self-Assessment

  Project Data
Funds: $400,000
Research Agency: Spy Pond Partners
Principal Investigator: Frances D. Harrison
Effective Date: 5/17/2013
Completion Date: 7/16/2015

The objectives of this research were to (1) test the feasibility of the data self-assessment process proposed in previous NCHRP research and (2) produce a guidebook for transportation agencies to implement this process. The guidebook is aimed at helping decisionmakers and data practitioners at state departments of transportation (DOTs) to evaluate and improve their data quality and management practices to ensure that their data effectively supports decision making about policy choices, infrastructure investments, and other  agency functions.  The self-assessment process may also be useful to metropolitan planning organizations. (MPOs)  The guidebook was published as NCHRP Report 814 Data to Support Transportation Agency Business Needs: A Self-Assessment Guide. The research team's final report was published as a Web-Only document. Supplemental materials included a PowerPoint executive presentation, a flyer outlining the data self-assessment process, and spreadsheet tools to assist implementation of a self-assessment process. The consultant's report and the supplemental materials as well as the NCHRP report are available for download: click here.
