To assess specific DOT data needs, researchers sent a request for information to 50 state DOTs to identify data collection practices, data reporting requirements and current automated data collection or reporting systems. Thirty-seven state DOTs responded. This Digest provides states with a mechanism for standard data collection, management and reporting.
