This synthesis will be of interest to maintenance managers, maintenance engineers, and others concerned with the periodic problems associated with the day-to-day maintenance of highways. Information is presented on discovery and response systems applicable to short-term responsive maintenance needs. The development and implementation of short-term responsive maintenance systems (STRMS) can be effective in handling permanent or temporary repairs. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes and discusses the short-term responsive maintenance systems in effect in several states.
