This synthesis will be of interest to administrators, designers, computer personnel, and others interested in the operation and management of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems. Information is provided on selection and implementation of CADD systems, current use in state departments of transportation (DOTs), and issues involved in managing a CADD system and CADD operators. Most state DOTs either have or plan to acquire CADD systems to improve their design, drafting, and mapping operations.
