In preparing for the 2002 Condition and Performance Report the NCHRP and the TCRP have played an integral research role in supporting the efforts of AASHTO and others. A large part of the work was immediate action research done under tight time constraints. Some work was relegated to "future" research given the long lead times needed for the work. As the C&P activity is completed and reauthorization comes to the forefront it will be essential to assess the effectiveness of the research done to date, hear from users and providers and plan for future research by the identification and assessment of future requirements. The objective of this task is the development of a series of papers in review followed by an invitation only conference of principal participants to assess past work and define future requirements.
