Objective: To provide decisionmakers with information on whether to implement or expand a canine (K9) program for transportation police or security operations. Heightened awareness of threats from explosives has led to active consideration of the use of dogs as a strategy for coping with threats against public transportation systems.

Status: Completed. Published in September 2002 as TCRP Report 86, Public Transportation Security Volume 2, (600 KB PDF) "K9 Units in Public Transportation: A Guide for Decision Makers"offers information on current K9 deployment practices, K9 program establishment issues, and explosives detection.
