Security-Related Training and Customer Communications: Lessons Learned from September 11 by Transportation Providers

Objective: To develop improved training and customer communications tools. Selected items from the set of collected and analyzed materials, as well as new materials, will be provided as customizable templates in a Resource Catalogue of Transit and Paratransit Security Communication and Training Tools. The Resource Catalogue will also include sensitive communications language for LED signs and other displays, as well as guidelines for making public announcements in emergency situations.

Status: Completed. Published in April 2004 as TCRP Report 86 Public Transportation Security Volume 5,Security-Related Customer Communications and Training for Public Transportation Providers is designed to provide improved tools for security-related customer communications and training. This report is in electronic format on CRP-CD-43. The CD contains a 15-minute video on the importance of training for transit emergencies, a PowerPoint overview of the report, the final report in portable document format (pdf), and templates of communication devices.
