New Paradigms for Public Transit

  Project Data
Funds: $171,000
Research Agency: Various
Effective Date: 5/20/1996
Completion Date: 1/1/2000

Many industries are restructuring in response to new technology, improved communication, changes in the work force, and financial pressures. The forces that affect other industries also affect the public transit industry, requiring new attitudes toward customers, employees, service delivery, organization, and technology. Terms like "reengineering," "reinventing," and "partnering" are common in the business press, but what do these terms imply for the public transit industry? A series of research projects is needed to describe how the political, economic, social, technological, and cultural forces at work affect the public transit industry in this country and how the industry may best respond.
