TCRP Project H-15 is completed. The objective of this project was to identify research projects in support of APTA's report, Mobility for the 21st Century: A Blueprint for the Future. The Mobility 21 report outlines four possible scenarios for the future and sets forth a preferred vision of the future. A companion report, Strategic Goals for the 21st Century, defines specific goals derived from the preferred vision of the future.
The Mobility 21 scenarios are as follows:
· Boundless Sprawl,
· Dying Cities,
· Community-Oriented Growth, and
· Reinventing the City.
These are the strategic goals for the 21st Century that embody the preferred vision of the future:
1. Build on the Principles of ISTEA,
2. Invest in Innovative Sustainable Technologies,
3. Create Desirable Land Use and Development Patterns,
4. Strengthen Regional and Metropolitan Planning and Decision Making
5. Shift Toward True Cost Pricing, and
6. Provide Creative Leadership Through Partnerships.
Under this project, research projects were identified that assist in reaching the preferred vision for the 21st Century. A workshop was held in April 1995 during which 21 problem statements were developed. To date, five of these problem statements have been approved by TOPS.
