At the time that TCRP Report 52, "Joint Operation of Light Rail Transit or Diesel Multiple Unit Vehicles With Railroads" (TCRP Project A-17) was in publication, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) were drafting a joint policy statement on shared track. The TCRP report and the draft policy statement were issued almost simultaneously in the Spring 1999. A comment period for review of the draft FRA/FTA policy statement was completed in February 2000, and the final statement was issued on July 10, 2000.

The objective of this project was to update the information contained in TCRP Report 52 to acknowledge the release of the final FRA/FTA policy statement.

Status: The final report has been published as TCRP Research Results Digest 43.
