NCHRP 04-21 [Final]

Appropriate Use of Waste and Recycled Materials in the Transportation Industry

  Project Data
Funds: $499,974
Research Agency: Chesner Engineering
Principal Investigator: Warren Chesner
Effective Date: 6/1/1995
Completion Date: 3/15/2000

The objectives of this research were first, to develop a methodology for (1) assessing the suitability and practicability of specific waste and recycled materials (WRMs) in transportation applications, (2) determining appropriate uses, (3) developing design and construction guidelines, and (4) evaluating long-term in-service performance, and second, to apply the methodology to a spectrum of WRMs.

The key product of the project was the NCHRP Waste and Recycled Materials Information Database and companion user's manual. The database is a Windows 95-based program containing information on 21 WRMs identified for use in transportation-related applications.

The WRM database was published on CD-ROM as CRP-CD-5. However, its compatibility with more recent versions of the Windows operating system is unknown.
