Task 72, FY 1994, "Materials Characterization for Input to AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures" (Mr. James L. Brown). The AASHTO Joint Task Force on Pavements (JTFP) identified material characterization for input to AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures as an important issue during the workshop held in Syria, VA, in March 1993. Various laboratory tests have been used to characterize strength and material properties of pavement materials. However, many questions have arisen regarding the accuracy of the results obtained from these tests and their agreement with field-measured and calculated data. This work was coordinated with NCHRP Project 10-44, "Nondestructive Testing to Determine In situ Material Properties of Pavement Layers." A final report documenting the research and its findings was prepared and transmitted to the AASHTO Joint Task Force on Pavements. This task is complete. (NCHRP Staff: A.N. Hanna)
