Task 65, FY 1993, "Recommended Practices for Sampling, Handling, and Testing of Pavement Samples" (Mr. Garland Steele). During the 1993 AASHTO Subcommittee on Materials (SCOM) meeting in Vail, Colorado, Technical Section 1b. (Engineering Soils and Geology) discussed some of the SHRP products and the ways that they could be implemented into state DOT practice. Two of the products discussed were the Guide to Field Material Sampling and Handling and the Laboratory Guide for Testing Pavement Samples. The SCOM Chairman requested that the implementation of these documents be studied as part of the NCHRP. At the meeting on October 23, 1993, the 20-7 Project Panel decided to fund the subject study at $25,000. An advisory panel was formed. The panel developed a work statement, selected a consultant, and provided guidance for the project. The consultant reviewed the 2 SHRP documents and identified 57 AASHTO standards that could be developed. The effort involved in converting these standards to AASHTO format is far in excess of the funds available. The panel recommended that four standards be developed as part of this task and the PI produced these standards. The standards were submitted to the Subcommittee on Materials, which will develop the remaining group on an as needed basis. The project is complete.
